Sam Yong is an emerging self-taught artist and illustrator based in Melbourne. He works primarily with pencil, colour pencil and recently has delved into oil painting. He has recently exhibited in Paris, and the United States as well as taking part in group shows in both New Zealand and Melbourne. His commercial clients include Lorde (Universal Music), Rock en Seine Festival, WORLD, I Love Ugly and Billabong New Zealand.

Yong's recent works present the delicate balance of life and death in the natural world in an unfamiliar way. The intricate detailed graphite and colour pencil illustrations depict both flora and fauna intertwining with one another; reflecting on the complex relationships between all living things in nature and how they affect each other. Yong captures both the cruel simplicity of nature, while also bringing a human element using non-human subject matter as he rationalizes his own emotions about life and mortality.
