MATTHEW EATON

MATTHEW EATON

California-born (1974) and London, England raised, Artist Matthew Eaton is an abstract painter based in Michigan. Eaton creates compositions rooted mostly in his personal experiences in America’s National Parks, wilderness and remote BLM lands. His work has been exhibited and seen around the globe in galleries, auctions and private collections. For over two decades Eaton has explored his personal relationship with nature in his painting and sculpture, while also advocating for other artists through galleries and residency programs.

His work is a direct reflection and memory of his own experiences in nature. Each color, shape and pattern representative of something else, often far more detailed and intricate in life, deconstructed and simplified for easy recall. Light and shadow, color and shape are amplified to extremes for better emotional explanation. This process of this examination and subsequent translation helps to cement the physical location and visceral aesthetic experience to memory. While these steps are important and informative to him personally, his hope is that the viewer is able to share in the wonder and joy of nature with or without having a personal relationship to any given location or moment.
