FIVE EIGHT is a multidisciplinary artist, born and based in Montreal.  Primarily a painter with a graffiti art background, his style and technique arise from concerns of realism, light, and colour.  His complete body of work includes studio paintings, neon light sculptures, and large-scale murals.

FIVE’s current work depicts his own perceived reality as shaped by his technological environment.  Neon tube lighting was a predominant medium for advertisement, art, and entertainment during the artist’s development into adulthood, and is used in these paintings as the sole source of illumination of the environment and subject.  The image is distorted as though it is being displayed through a visual output devise, the portal through which we not only analyze and interpret information, but which also influences how we analyze and interpret information.
