POW! WOW! HAWAII 2012

POW! WOW! HAWAII 2012

Following up on an extremely successful showing in 2011, the multi-day POW! WOW! Hawai’i art event prepared for its third annual showing. Originally conceived in Hong Kong, the event moved to founder Jasper Wong’s native Hawaii to help enrich the local creative scene. The event encompasses a global roster of over 30 artists who created art at Loft in Space and over the streets of Kaka’ako over a six-day period between February 13 to 18, 2012. The artists included 123KLAN, Angry Woebots, Aaron De La Cruz, Flying Fortress, Mr. Jago, Jeff Hamada, Nicole Naone, Samuel Rodriguez, Suitman, Prime and many more. Aside from the main event of artists hard at work, two secondary elements included an Arkitip Pop-Up Store and the “Day Job?” photo exhibition curated by Hypebeast’s Eugene Kan. The nearly week-long event culminated into a huge party on Saturday, February 18 as well as a “black out” session in which many of the pieces created for the event were painted over to reinforce the importance of the process in art.
